We live in a world where our children are fed so many messages about themselves that can be hard for them to tunnel through all the junk and remember the words God has spoken into their lives. Satan has used this opportunity to speak despair and division into their hearts in order to separate them from the love of God. Thankfully, God has equipped us with the power of His word to break these chains and live freely in him!
LIE 1: YOU ARE ALONE:
There is nothing more terrifying to anybody than being left alone; both physically and emotionally. Today’s society tells our children that if they don’t fit into the very limited mold of success that has crafted, that they don’t belong anywhere. The fear of loneliness can drive children into situations that are neither safe nor productive as they seek to fit in. Children need to be taught that with God they are never alone. Whether they are walking in a dark alley or abandoned by friends and family. The Lord Himself surrounds and protects them!
TRUTH: THE LORD WILL NEVER LEAVE NOR FORSAKE YOU
The Bible tells us that God’s love for us is so great that he will never leave our side.
Deuteronomy 31:8
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
LIE 2: YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH
As imperfect as we are as a society, we have somehow bought into the belief that we need to be a certain way before the Lord can love us. We will never be perfect enough for God, and even in knowing this He still decided that we were worth the ultimate sacrifice. Our children need to know that they don’t have to look a certain way, talk a certain way or follow some perfect path; all they have to do is love the Lord with all their hearts, follow his word and accept that He feels the same way about them.
TRUTH: YOU ARE FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE
God has formed us according to his perfect plan!
Psalm 139:4
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
LIE 3: YOU WILL ONLY BE HAPPY ONCE YOU HAVE THE LATEST, GREATEST NEW ITEM
In a world where technology and fashion are evolving on an hourly basis, we have bought into a mindset that you need the latest and best of everything to measure up. No product or service will ever bring us closer to God, or make him love us more. In fact, these possessions generally have the effect of taking us away from the things of the Lord.
TRUTH: YOUR GODLY SOUL IS WORTH MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE TO GOD
God places more value on our hearts and souls than anything else we can ever offer him.
Matthew 16:26
“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”
LIE 4: GOD IS UNAPPROACHABLE
Part of separating us from God is to make us feel that we cannot go to Him when needed. God has always shown that He is willing and able to meet us where we are and bring us into his wondrous light. Not only will God never forsake us, He is also passionate about conversing with us, comforting us, and giving us the wisdom and revelation needed whenever we come running into his arms!
TRUTH: YOU CAN ALWAYS RUN BOLDLY TO THE LORD
God loves and is always ready to talk to us no matter the situation, both in joy and in pain!
Hebrews 4:16
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
LIE 5: YOUR PROBLEMS ARE UNRESOLVABLE
By making children think that their troubles are too much to handle, Satan aims to tear them away from the ability to put their trust and faith in God. When one believes that their problems are bigger than their God, they are lead to take actions that only exacerbate the problem, instead of trusting that God will bring them through.
TRUTH: GOD USES ADVERSITY TO BUILD US INTO STRONGER FOLLOWERS
There is no situation that God brings us to that He cannot save us from, and much like a diamond, if we can endure the pressures of life, we will as emerge stronger and more capable beings!
